Graz is our hometown. This is where we grew up and where we discovered our deep love for Coffee and great Coffee Shops. Because Starbucks never found its way to Graz, it’s simple as that. While the american coffee shop chain might have revolutionized our way of drinking coffee it ruined the whole culture of it in the progress. The lack of hot starbucks and no possibility of having one’s coffee to go made Graz develop its own unique coffee scene.
And even though we now live in the capital city of coffee (and) culture we still believe that some of the very best coffee places are to be found in beautiful little Graz. That’s why we now want to share our top 5 coffee shops with you in our second coffee shop guide on Travellerista.
“Trink besseren Kaffee” translates to “drink better coffee”. And this place keeps its promises. Pairing great coffee with yummy cheesecakes and delicious fresh bagels makes it our favorite place to be in the city. Tribeka started its career with one shop in the city center and soon developed to a local coffee shop chain with 4 establishments. Because of their own very special coffee roast they also supply coffee to many other cafés and restaurants in Graz and Vienna.
Where to find? Old Town: Grieskai 2 | Kaiserfeldgasse 6; near University: Leonhardstraße 82 | Technikerstraße 13
This small coffee place is the living room of countless Students of the Karl Franzens University. Those in need for kick-ass coffee always pop by the Beanery. Small, not very chic but with great coffee this place is the heart of Graz’s coffee culture east of the old town. For us and many other coffee lovers Beanery is an institution in the Graz Coffee Shop Scene.
Where to find? Zinzendorfgasse 20
Love for Coffee, this is what makes Buna at Schmiedgasse so special. Actually it’s a shop for coffee makers and gadgets but this also where you find one of the best cappuccinos in the Old Town. The cool, minimalistic atmosphere really makes Buna the perfect place for a nice chat with friends, while enjoying delicious coffee and the beautiful historic center. And if you are up for a kick-ass Caffé Americano than this is the place for you to be.
Where to find? Schmiedgasse 11
Ducks is the newest venture in the Coffee Shop Scene of Graz. Friendly, nicely furnished and breakfast all day is what makes Ducks a real nice place to start one’s day or taking a little break from it. Regarding the coffee quality Ducks still has to learn a lot from the other cafés in order to become a successful new café in town. Nonetheless we like it and believe it has got great potential 🙂 .
Where to find? Raubergasse 14
Martin Auer has been doing something right about his bakery. Graz’s most famos bakery developed to one of the leading cafés in town serving people of all ages. Yummy coffee and great pastries are simply the dream team of Austrian coffee culture. Our favorite place is the one in the Schmiedgasse 🙂 .
Where to find? Stubenberggasse 10 (crossing Schmiedgasse)
